The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has issued a reminder to engineers that work on equipment containing Fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) that they need to now have certain qualifications in order to carry out this work.

The new scheme means that all businesses that install, maintain or service stationary refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pump or fire equipment that contains F-gas refrigerants must hold a Company Certificate issued by a Company Certification body.

The qualifications engineers must obtain vary on whether they are working with F-gases or ODS, and also whether they are working on stationary equipment or cars and vans with mobile air conditioning equipment.
