Shell is inviting UK businesses with compelling ideas for tackling climate change to apply for its Springboard award competition.
The Shell Springboard Awards programme 2009/10 rewards innovative companies with a 'no strings attached' £20,000 or £40,000 prize for ideas which will lead to greenhouse gas reductions and which are commercially viable.
Last year awards were made to nine businesses from across the UK and the winner was Ma (Innovations) 2T4 Ltd which was rewarded for its Supercharger Air Hybrid system for car engines. The system works by using the energy created by braking to send extra power to the engine allowing a manufacturer to downsize engines without losing power, reducing the vehicle’s carbon emissions.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Friday 6th November 2009 and the awards will be presented in early 2010.
