BD2 has offered website development and digital marketing services to a broad range of business sectors since 1998.
In 2017 the company graduated from the Greater Manchester Greater Connected programme, an intensive growth course for digital SMEs delivered by the GC Business Growth Hub.
Following the course, BD2 asked the Business Growth Hub for help to improve lighting and heating at its office space in Wigan.
Audit, solution, grant
Specialist environmental business advisor, Becky Chedd, visited the office to conduct a full energy efficiency audit of the premises. Lighting was being delivered by fluorescent tubes that could be upgraded to LEDs, while there were a number of inefficient portable electric heaters in use.
To find the right solution, a call for information was sent out through the Business Growth Hub’s Low Carbon Network, a free-to-use online directory of over 200 green tech suppliers in Greater Manchester.
BD2 invited a number of Low Carbon Network members to conduct surveys on-site, eventually selecting nearby Wigan company Perfect Sense to install new LED lighting and super-efficient infra-red heaters.
The project was eligible for grant funding from the Business Growth Hub, giving BD2 a 50 per cent contribution towards the capital cost of the new systems.
Together, the two upgrades have reduced BD2’s annual electricity consumption by over 16,000kWh, saving more than £2,200 a year.
“It’s great to know that we’re saving money and reducing our carbon footprint at the same time as improving light quality and staff comfort levels in our office”, said Will Bentley, BD2’s managing director.
“We would not have known where to turn without the help of the Business Growth Hub and its Low Carbon Network.”
