Meditex Supplies Ltd, Oldham - SME (Manufacturing / Healthcare)

Meditex Supplies Ltd, an SME in Oldham, has found over £12,500 of annual cost savings after a free resource efficiency review by an ENWORKS adviser.

Based in the Lees area of Oldham, the company employs 16 staff based over two sites, developing and manufacturing tubular bandages for the health care industry.

Energy efficiency drive

As part of the review, carried out by Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, a number of no-cost or low-cost opportunities were identified at Meditex to improve energy efficiency on site. Ongoing support has since been provided to help the company implement these opportunities.
The review included a compressed air leak detection survey undertaken using ultrasound equipment, which has enabled the company to identify and repair leaks saving £1,740 in annual costs, 19,000 kWh of electricity and over 2.5 tonnes of CO2e.

Other opportunities, many of which require no capital expenditure, identified in the report to further reduce energy use within the business include installing destratification fans and timer switches on heating units and upgrading the lighting system to a more energy efficient specification. Work is now ongoing to implement these recommended opportunities which could save the business over £10,500 per year.
In total, the opportunities identified to date have the potential to save over £12,500 in costs and 82 tonnes of CO2e per year from reducing the amount of both electricity and gas used on site.

'Generating profit to the bottom line'

Technical director, Michael Lundy said: "Excellent survey reports which have indicated some very good opportunities for saving costs and generating profit to the bottom line - making Meditex leaner, smarter and more environmentally friendly."
