There are over 2,000 companies working in the low carbon and environmental goods and services (LCEGS) sector in Greater Manchester, employing some 38,000 people. With annual sales of over £5.5 billion in 2012/13 and a growth rate of over 5 per cent, the low carbon sector is a key pillar of Greater Manchester's 2013-2020 growth strategy. 

The Low Carbon Network is helping to map the products and services delivered by the LCEGS sector in Greater Manchester and beyond to help demonstrate the expertise we have in our local supply chains, as well as helping to connect members with new business opportunities and raise their profile in the sector.

Who can sign up?

The Network is open to any business working in, or looking to diversify into, the LCEGS sector. This covers all activity that deals with environmental issues - from traditional pollution clean-up to renewable energy, to complex low carbon solutions. More specifically, our Network is tailored for companies working in:

  • Energy efficiency: lighting, heating and cooling, energy monitoring and control systems, building technologies and sustainable construction, energy storage systems, other energy efficient products

  • Renewable and low carbon energy: solar PV and thermal, heat pumps, biomass, wave and tidal, wind, hydro, heat networks, carbon capture and storage (CCS), nuclear, consulting services

  • Low emission vehicles and infrastructure: design and manufacture of vehicles, charging infrastructure, software and IT, low carbon logisitics, alternative fuels

  • Waste management, recovery and recycling: collection, reprocess and treatment, handling and storage, manufacture of products with recycled content

  • Water management and treatment: rainwater harvesting, sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDs), water controls and management

  • Environmental monitoring and management: marine pollution control, noise and vibration conrol, environmental monitoring, air polluion, contaminated land, environmental consultancy

  • Smart grids: low voltage networks, smart metering, in-house and other smart technologies

  • Low carbon finance

Please note: the Low Carbon Network is tailored specifically for companies in Greater Manchester. Companies from outside the region are free to join but may not benefit from the full service. 

How do I sign up?

Signing up is a quick and easy two-step process.

  1. Simply provide some basic information about you and your business. If you are already signed up to our Green Intelligence newsletter or our Green Growth Pledge, the system can automatically populate your details using your email address.

  2. Select the sectors most relevant to your business activity and tell us a bit more about what you do.
