Globe Environmental Consulting Ltd, Stockport - SME (Waste Management)

Globe Environmental Consulting, a waste management consultancy based in Stockport, is working with the Business Growth Hub to branch out into new areas of the waste market.

Adnan Zeb-Khan, director of Globe Environmental, said: “As a small business, it’s difficult to commit resources to new activities and raise our profile in new markets, and that’s where the Business Growth Hub’s low carbon and environmental sector expertise is helping us.”

Globe Environmental Consulting was set up in 2012 to provide dedicated consultancy-based advice and services to the waste management sector in the UK and overseas.

Its core services include procuring waste services, managing existing waste collection contracts, consolidating contracts over multiple sites and conducting waste audits.

The director of the company, Adnan Zeb-Khan, has over 18 years’ of cross-sector experience in delivering sustainability and waste management services to public and private sector clients, including construction sites, manufacturers, service providers, local authorities, and the education and hospitality sectors.

Diversification

The vast majority of Globe Environmental’s portfolio has traditionally been focused on waste collection. However, to reduce risk and identify new opportunities for growth, the company aims to branch out into waste treatment and disposal services and is working with the Business Growth Hub’s low carbon sector team to diversify its business model.

Following a business diagnostic with low carbon sector advisor, Vicky Hall, Globe Environmental joined the Hub’s online Low Carbon Network to help identify new business opportunities and raise its profile amongst potential clients.

The Low Carbon Network provides companies in Greater Manchester’s low carbon and environmental goods and services supply chains with tailored updates, networking and tender opportunities and a public profile on its searchable database.

As a result, Globe Environmental has already identified and won a tender for a consultancy project in one of its new target markets.

‘Competitive marketplace’

“We’ve built a successful business out of helping organisations specify and procure sustainable waste collection services, but the treatment and disposal of waste is a relatively untapped resource for us”, said Adnan.

“As a small business, it’s difficult to commit resources to new activities and raise our profile in new markets, and that’s where the Business Growth Hub’s low carbon and environmental sector expertise is helping us.”

Vicky Hall added: “The waste management sector is a competitive marketplace and a key part of Greater Manchester’s thriving low carbon economy.

“It can sometimes be difficult for small companies to find the right routes to branch out into new areas, and that’s why we offer support to help growing companies like Globe Environmental to diversify and strengthen their position in this incredibly important market.”
